Maria Flores, LCAT, ATR-BC
Licensed in the state of New York, and a board-certified art therapist, I have eight years of clinical experience in the mental health field. Having worked with many people from all walks of life, I believe strongly in the collaborative nature of the therapeutic relationship.
I consider it a great privilege to help people reach their therapy goals and feel the positive effects of the work.
Currently accepting new clients.
About Maria (she/her)
Before I became a therapist, I spent years as a grant writer for some of the country's well-known art museums. I then traveled abroad extensively as a volunteer, facilitating arts-based projects to raise funds for local community investment. In 2015 I enrolled in NYU Steinhardt's graduate program in Creative Arts Therapy, looking for a deeper way to leverage the power of the creative process to help people.

Since then I've worked in inpatient, outpatient, and social service settings across New York City — including the psychiatry units at Bellevue Hospital, New York Presbyterian's Payne Whitney Clinic, and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center — treating individuals with anxiety, depression, psychosis, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. Today I offer my expertise solely through private practice.

I'm still an active traveler, most drawn to places where traditional ways of life meet rapidly changing societies. From my home in Brooklyn I also enjoy spontaneous camping trips, architectural salvage, and scratchy old records and unusual field recordings.
